Goals and Desires.

© Jule Helmke

Today I met with some of the girls from church and we ended up talking about our goals and desires. What is the difference between them? Can we control our desires like we can with our goals? What goals do we have today?

For me goals are something logical, something that we decide we want to do, be or achieve. When we set such a goal for ourself, we often set a time limit as well. A “deadline”. Like: I want to read all books by Jane Austen in one month. (I may take that challenge ;) )

Desires on the other hand describe who we are meant to be or what we are born to do. It’s something that comes from your heart, from somewhere deep inside you, that’s been given to you, from God, a higher power, the universe – you name it. And the only deadline you have is your lifetime.

One of the girls said something that’s kind of stuck in my head:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Later that evening we all took a piece of paper and wrote down our thoughts about the goals that we have right now and our desires and put them in an envelope. In about six month from now we are going to open them again and see if anything has changed since then. I’m looking forward to that day! I’m curious if I will stick to my plans or maybe go a totally different path. Expect a new post in six month called “goals and desires –  the aftermath” ;)

The Colors of a Rainbow: Part 5.

Mission accomplished! This is the last part of the Rainbow series. If you have any ideas or inspirations for upcoming series feel free to leave a comment down below :)

Purple

“Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation.

Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Most children love the color purple. Purple is the color most favored by artists. Thursday’s color is purple.” Crystal Cure

The Colors of a Rainbow: Part 4.

I like the description for this one. Next thing on my to-do-list will be “buy blue pajamas” haha :)

Blue

“Blue is the coolest color – the color of the sky, ocean, sleep, twilight. The ancient Egyptians used lapis lazuli to represent heaven. Blue symbolizes the Virgin Mary. A pure blue is the color of inspiration, sincerity and spirituality. Blue is often the chosen color by conservative people. Blue is the calming color. That makes it a wonderful color to use in the home, especially for babies. Blue is so soothing that is a good choice for pajamas. Dark blue is the color of truth and moderation. A blue iris means your friendship is very important to me. Wednesday’s color is blue.” Crystal Cure
